East Kensington Outdoor Learning - Small school. Big World.

Small school.

East Kensington’s EKOlogy program is a small school. In fact, it is the second smallest school in the district just over 100 students compared to the average 吃瓜大本营 school which has over 400 students. And this is a good thing. With just over 100 students, everyone knows your name at East Kensington. Everyone has the room to be themselves. They are able to stay younger longer. Teachers get know the students well. This means that no one gets overlooked. Being small means that everyone matters Being small means that we are more flexible. We meet often as a staff to tailor our program to the changing and unique needs of our students. All schools care about their students but East Kensington, we know our students and are able to be respond to those needs effectively.

Big world.

EK love EricksonEKOlogy stands for East Kensington Outdoor school. Ecology is the study of the relationships between humans and their physical environment; it seeks to understand the vital connections between plants and animals and the world around them. In the same way that we work hard to be responsive to our students, we believe that we need to be responsive to our place. We believe that nature is an important teacher. Studying nature in nature just makes sense. Studying the wonders of our world outdoors teaches creativity, gratitude, responsibility, and humility. And it is a healthier way to learn physically and emotionally. It is a richer environment to learn than any school building. There is dirt to be dug, plants to plant, bugs to be wondered at, and of course sticks to collect. And we understand that the world is a big place academically. East Kensington covers the same curriculum as other schools only and have found that being outside helps students learn. Finally, we know that school is bigger than academics so also offer music, art, and athletic opportunities such as track and xcountry.
